I rented the coolant system pressure tester from the auto parts store:
1. Hooked up the radiator cap: It’s my understanding, the cap should “open” at 16-19 psi. I got it to 25-30 and it never opened. I’m thinking I at least need a radiator cap – yes?
2. Hooked up the pressure tester to the radiator: Started pumping it up, and couldn’t even get it to 10-12 psi. I could hear bubbling and the pressure quickly dropped. Then I noticed coolant on the floor of the garage – a nice trickle coming from the back of the engine.
I pumped it up again, could hear the bubbling/hissing back near the #6 cylinder (closest to the brake booster.)
I decided to take off the upper intake plenum to see if anything underneath was leaking and noticed a small puddle in the #6 area of the ending. After putting the system under pressure again, coolant starting bubbling out of the #6 fuel injector.
I also took out the #6 spark plug and stuck a q-tip in there – the q-tip was dry and the spark plug was dry, too.
Does the fuel injector seal off a coolant channel? Or am I looking at a deeper gasket?
Thanks
