Have a crank, no start issue with a ’00 Honda Civic that i’m having a hard time finding info about online because it will still start usually if i press the gas pedal a little bit. It will start normally, but once i turn it off it won’t start for anywhere from an hour to the rest of the day. I smell fuel, too. Though searching online hasn’t yielded anything this specific, it’s still got me thinking it may be the fuel pump. Any ideas? If so, any tips on the replacement? Could an amateur like myself do it or should i take it to a shop?

Also, plug wires, plugs, rotary button (i think?) and distributor cap have all been replaced and it worked fine for a day or two and then went right back to the previous symptoms

Check the fuel pressure and also the fuel regulator. You can pull the vacuum hose off the regulator and see if there is fuel in the hose. Also try running the engine with that vacuum line disconnected and plugged to see if there is an immediate difference

sounds like you have a fuel leak… comon places are around the fuel injectors and the fuel rail area… also check any hoses for leaks..
you can try a fuel pressure gadge and see what it shows….and check the feul flow rate… both are probly low Im figering
uselly you can rent fuel pressure gadges at most auto part stores

Leaking injector ? That would explain the “hard to start when hot” and likewise the smell of fuel. Might be worth checking.

Somebody with more up-to-date experience than me, please jump in, but I´ld assume you could check fuel pressure at idle, stop the car and see how fast the pressure drops. I´ld think that would indicate a leaking injector.
