About ETCG1

ETCG1 checker Logo Broken small 2018 copyI started the ETCG1 channel about a year or so after starting the EricTheCarGuy channel.  I did this for a couple of reasons.  The first is that I needed a place where I could post 'non-repair' videos that related to EricTheCarGuy, it became apparent early on that my audience on EricTheCarGuy were interested in repair videos only so to accommodate them and fill the need for video topics outside of repair ETCG1 was born.  The second reason is that it became apparent that many viewers had questions about becoming professional technicians and they wanted to learn what it was like to work in the field, they also seemed interested in my opinions and experiences that developed while working as a technician.  ETCG1 has become something of a 'soapbox' for me to share these thoughts and ideas and it gives me the opportunity to respond to some of the questions I get about the auto repair industry.  ETCG1 is also a place where you can learn a little more about what it is to be and work as EricTheCarGuy, best job in the world if you asked me.  Why not watch a few videos and let me know what YOU think?

Well it's not technically the 'last' video that I'll post in 2013, but it is the last for ETCG1. It's also the last video that I've shot for the year. In it, I try to sum up some of my thoughts about this past year.

I still had a little money left over after buying the 1979 Ford Fairmont, so when an old friend of mine called up and asked if I wanted to buy his 1993 Acura Vigor for $500, I said sure. I was hoping that it would have a manual transmission.

I can't remember exactly how this topic got started but it got me to thinking. Mostly thinking about luxury cars and the philosophy behind them. Motor vehicles are at their most basic level designed to get us from point A to point B.

Personally, I get a certain kind of thrill driving old cars and trucks. They just seem to have a feel that modern vehicles don't have. I think the word for it would be, personality. Modern vehicles are made to keep us safe and be efficient. Older vehicles were made to get us from one place to another, sometimes in style, sometimes a little bit late.

In my last video I talked about selling my Subaru. In this video I talk about some of my options for a replacement. I have a budget of about $4100 after selling both the Subaru and an old Acura Integra that I had in the shop for a bit. Now I just need to pick a direction and start looking.
