About ETCG1

ETCG1 checker Logo Broken small 2018 copyI started the ETCG1 channel about a year or so after starting the EricTheCarGuy channel.  I did this for a couple of reasons.  The first is that I needed a place where I could post 'non-repair' videos that related to EricTheCarGuy, it became apparent early on that my audience on EricTheCarGuy were interested in repair videos only so to accommodate them and fill the need for video topics outside of repair ETCG1 was born.  The second reason is that it became apparent that many viewers had questions about becoming professional technicians and they wanted to learn what it was like to work in the field, they also seemed interested in my opinions and experiences that developed while working as a technician.  ETCG1 has become something of a 'soapbox' for me to share these thoughts and ideas and it gives me the opportunity to respond to some of the questions I get about the auto repair industry.  ETCG1 is also a place where you can learn a little more about what it is to be and work as EricTheCarGuy, best job in the world if you asked me.  Why not watch a few videos and let me know what YOU think?

I think the Art of Diagnosis is something you learn over time. Some people have a natural ability, but I think they still need time and experience to develop that ability. I believe it's really just an exorcize in logical thinking. Understanding cause and effect.

Pride in your work is something I think is important. If you're don't care about the work you put out, why would you do it in the first place? If you don't make the effort then don't expect a return. However, if you take pride in what you do, it will come back to you.

It seems to me that there are a lot of differences of opinion in the automotive field. As I said in the video we have technician A and technician B in ASE tests that seem to be pitted against one another. I've also seen some very vocal comments to some of my videos.

When I first made the "Driving Old Cars" video I was thinking about vehicles that to ME were old. I hadn't considered vehicles newer than 1985 or so to be old. There were some responses about vehicles that were in the 2000's. That got me thinking, old cars are relative. If the vehicle is as old as you or older, it's old.

GM ignition switch recalls have been in the news lately and I thought I would make this video addressing recalls in general. This is not a slam of any particular manufacturer, it's just a discussion about recalls and their effect on the vehicle buying public.
