Craftsman MAKEation #1
I’ll start by saying this is a sponsored blog. Don’t worry, it’s still awesome.
Do you like to make stuff? I know I do. It started when I was a kid when I would take apart my toys. I sometimes got them back together, and sometimes didn’t. Sometimes I would modify them to be cooler than the original. This trend has continued throughout my life.
My latest endeavor is my 1979 Ford Fairmont. Let’s face it, it’s not the most glamorous vehicle ever built, far from it. But for me, that’s the point. What I intend to do is build a ‘sleeper’ out of this forgettable vehicle. That means when I get done, it will pretty much look just like it does now, but underneath that custard color, it will be a completely different story. I plan to make this car perform beyond what it was ever designed to do. When I get done, it will go faster, handle better, and brake so hard your forehead’ll kiss the windshield.
Now for the sponsored part. Although, I don’t need an excuse to talk about my projects. I just need someone to listen, or in this case read about them.
I’ve been using Craftsman tools for as long as I can remember. In fact, they weren’t even mine. They were my grandfathers. I suppose it’s worth mentioning my grandfather was a master fabricator. He could build just about anything in his shop. People from all over commissioned him to build a great many things. I wish I’d inherited his welding skills.
I would spend much of my young life in his shop playing with his tools. Not the power tools, I was only allowed to use his hand tools at the time. This was a good call since I was about 6 at the time.
My grandfather made things, I like making things too. I suppose it gets in your blood. I think a lot of you out there can relate. In fact, I know a lot of you do. Therefore, I’d like to tell you about a couple of opportunities where you can connect with other like minded individuals and possibly win a trip to NY to play with the latest Craftsman tools while learning from experts like my grandfather.
I’m speaking specifically about the Craftsman Club. It’s a place where you can connect with other people that like to make things. I signed up recently and was surprised at what I found. There are a LOT of skilled creative people on there. If you join the Craftsman Club, you’ll not only see these people in action, but you can get help from some of the members as well. You can also get ideas of your own based on what’s posted. Think of it like Pinterest for gear heads and workshop junkies. For me, it’s better than Pinterest because it seems a bit more interesting than the latest recipe for butter cookies. Not that I don’t like butter cookies. In fact, I may like them too much.
The other thing I wanted to share with you was the Craftsman MAKEation contest going on from now till July 31, 2015. If you’re like me, and you like playing with tools and building stuff, this is the MAKEation for you. If you win, you’ll get an all expense paid 3 day MAKEation where not only will you get to play with the latest Craftsman tools, you’ll also be able to learn from experts in their field about how you can improve your future projects.
So if you were looking to get away and enjoy a fun filled weekend of blood, sweat, and tools, I strongly recommend you join the Craftsman Club and enter their MAKEation sweepstakes. Who knows, you might just win a weekend in Brooklyn NY
where you get to play with all the Craftsman tools you want while you make the stuff of your dreams.
Me, I’m going to get back to my Fairmont project. I also got this 1982 Mustang I’ll be pulling the engine and transmission from to use in the Fairmont. I’ll be doing a few ‘tweeks’ to the powertrain before I stab it in the Fairmont.
Stay tuned.
So go join the Craftsman Club and enter to with the MAKEation. Why? Cause it’ll be fun.
