Hi guys,my car hesitates to accelerate when I press down on my gas pedal. When I press on my gas pedal, say after making a right turn, the car feels like loss all power and then it instantly gains it back and continues to accelerate right after. It doesn’t matter what speed or direction I am heading, the problem still occurs. I’ve read online and people have suggested that I may have a bad fuel filter or that my fuel pump may be going bad. The car idles normally and the problem happens regardless of my engine temperature. I’ve also noticed my fuel gauge has been fluctuating in readings. I can drive for an entire week and the gauge will not move from the full mark. After a week and a half, the gauge will drop down to almost a half. Any suggestions guys?
My car is a 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe (Automatic Tranny) with about 52,000 miles on it.

Sound like an Engine Performance Issue. Your fuel filter could be the cause but there could be also many other things that could be wrong. Here are some vids that should help you.
I’m not sure when it was last tuned. My aunty sold me this car before she left and I was told there were regular oil changes. I will be doing a full tune up soon. I hope it’ll fix my problem!

Honda fuel pumps hardly ever go bad, don’t go there, especially first thing. Start with the suggested tune up but something else that I thought of while I was reading your post was to also check the transmission fluid, if the fluid is low it can take a second for the transmission to engage on acceleration. This of corse is if you have an automatic, if not ignore that part of this post but it still wouldn’t be a bad idea to check the clutch operation at that point.
Getting back to checking the transmission fluid with Hondas you must check the level with the vehicle OFF NOT RUNNING. It’s also important that you only use Honda fluid in those transmissions.
Of corse if you have any check engine lights start with those first but if not check the basics and stay away from complex theories that you don’t have evidence for and it’ll save you some $$.

Thanks guys! I will make sure to do all the basic tune up steps first. I need to do a full tune up soon anyways. I will keep you guys posted as soon as the tune up is done.
