I liked this tool and app. In fact I liked it a little better than the last smart phone app I reviewed. What are your thoughts?

Looks handy to keep in a car that you know has problems.

On a sidenote about your Bluetooth being built into the car, that is one of the potential features that OBDIII could have that is causing concern. As far as I know, the problem arises with the idea that an officer could scan your car while driving by and realize you have a CEL and flag you down. I guess in a perfect world that’s not so bad, but what some have had an issue with is…can then the officer look into your driving history and see if you were speeding and so on.

Who knows what the regulators and car companies will come up with.

It’s true that technology can be used for evil as well as good, but consider people are already driving around with that technology using those little adapters they plug into the OBDII port for cheaper insurance. Think they aren’t recording your driving habits? That’s how they judge your rates. That said, these days vehicles are coming with their own IP address. I think this trend will continue and will also incorporate into more diagnostics and wireless capability in the future. Including the ability to shut down your vehicle while in motion during a high speed chase.

          Thanks for your input.

I looked at the sample iPad app. The overlapping graph looks pretty useful. I’ve been looking for a way to graph multiple pid’s. My scan tool will graph live data but only one parameter at a time. Not very useful. So you could graph upstream o2 against short term fuel trim. Or like Eric said upstream o2 against downstream o2 to check a catalytic converter. I can think of many uses. Seems closer to the scan tools from snap-on where you can graph multiple pid’s. Looks fast enough to do it on Eric’s video. Still not bi-directional, I would love to find an advanced tool that can command a purge valve to open/close or abs bleed. …but those tools that can do that are not $50.
